I guess this is the post where I say we had a wonderful Christmas and recap all of the wonderful gifts given and received. And yes, while it was a nice Christmas and all, I’m just happy for it to be over. Another month and year is over, and it leaves me thinking that sometimes things go by so fast you don’t really get to sit and enjoy it all. Always another gift to be bought, a deadline to meet, a plane to catch, cards to be mailed, parties to prepare for…so many expectations you sometimes don’t meet or feel satisfied in the end with.

Brandon and I made it home the day before Xmas eve to find ourselves feeling sort of odd being just the two of us. You would think I would be used to it now – the holidays with just the two of us, and the fact I had just gotten through 4 days of full-throttle family action at my parents house in Vegas…but somehow it still felt odd. Not sad and lonely odd, just sort of like we were missing something. Left me thinking…I guess that’s why you go and have babies – to enjoy the holidays again. ;)

I’m just happy for it now to be just another month and day. Excited for a fresh new start for the new year. Hitting the gym today to get a head start on a new year’s resolution. Another good reason: I have a hot bridesmaids dress I need to fit into in T-minus 31 days! ;)

Oh and Happy Day After Xmas Sale Shopping. Picked up some yummy 50% off wrapping paper from my favorite paper this year: the SugarPlum collection from Martha Stewart at Kmart.

One less thing to pick up for next year’s Christmas, right?

On the road again…

And I’m off again tomorrow on an early morning flight to Vegas.

Going to meet up with my freezing cutie fiancee who left yesterday. Yes, I said freezing cold – as in, colder than Nashville, as in, it snowed last night in Vegas cold. Haha parents take back all that weather nonsense you told us when WE moved to a lovely place that was a WONDERFUL 72 degrees the other day.

Oh, and I have to do a little bit of work…a presentation while I’m there.  But work is okay, work is fun on vacation, right? Yeah…right…

But all in all, looking forward to seeing the two sets of parents and have a little pre-Xmas eve dinner. Not sure if Brandon will be able to top last year’s Xmas eve though…

Be back on Saturday for our first Nashville Christmas! Lot’s of sugar cookie bakin’ awaits for me for the neighbors! ;)

Another Check Mark on the Wedding To Do List.

Well it’s the holidays, so there hasn’t been much time for wedding planning. I keep saying (and everyone else tells me) I have all the time in the world, it being 9 months away…but wow, it’s really sneaking up on me! Save the Dates to be made, website to be designed a few other dozen vendors to select…

But, I’m very happy to report we have our photographers! I am thrilled with who we went with. One thing I’ve loved doing in the whole wedding planning so far is looking at photographer album websites. :) When I met with Whitney and Peter, I could just tell they were a perfect match for us! And Whitney’s work is stunning…love the artistic quality, the colors, the naturalness of it all…be sure to check out their blog! I love seeing the new posts and can’t wait for ours to be up there too eventually. :)

Gift Giving.

Category: Uncategorized

So when it comes to gift giving with my fiancee, I’m not the best shopper.

My intentions are always 100% good, but somehow along the way they fall flat.

Example #1:

Circa three years ago, Brandon was living in a condo and ‘fixing it up’. I knew he needed a place for his tools, but he didn’t have a garage so I knew he couldn’t have a full standing Craftsman special tool box. So I find what I think is the perfect tool box! It’s bigger than your average size, and EVEN HAD ROLLERS and a handle like ones on carry on suitcases. It’s PERFECT!….

Oh and did I mention it was MADE OF PLASTIC?? Tools + plastic toolbox = NOT COOL. (though I didn’t know at the time of course). I guess I was thinking all about "function" and organization. OH and somewhere in transportation after it had been wrapped, it cracked. Yeah, go figure. So we all reference that Christmas as "the time Amber got Brandon a BROKEN PLASTIC TOOL BOX."

I could go on to retell more stories of other bad presents, but I’ll save you the laughs.

19357481_fl_lrg This year however, was going to be THE BEST GIFT GIVING YEAR EVER. I had done SO GOOD. I thought of purpose, of quality, of need, and it was a very, very nice and expensive gift. I was so smug with myself! AND the most perfect thing of all, HE WOULD NEVER GUESS or have any clue what this present was (which he USUALLY does)…

Fast forward to this week….

At work they were doing a Christmas exchange and one of his co-workers emailed me who had drawn his name. This person wanted some ideas on what to get him. I offered up a couple, but they still came back asking if maybe he wanted some sort of tool? cufflinks? anything else? I replied no to the above items and offerred some more ideas up…..

And then yesterday, he came home with cufflinks.

And he proceeded to tell me the story of how I had told this person NOT to get him cufflinks, but someone else knew that he really wanted some, so they got him anyway. Then when they were opening gifts THEY ALL realized, gee, there’s probably a reason why Amber told you NOT TO GET HIM CUFFLINKS.

And he looked at me after saying all this with a smile…not knowing the wrath that was about to come..

So what did I do?

I STARTED TO CRY. I was SO furious. I mean this was THE YEAR I was going to give the best gift ever! And now someone got him practically the same gift!

And then (30 mins. much later) he calmed me down and said some nice things. And insisted I open one of mine. (side note: yes, I know I must sound like a 5 year old at this point).

And in the end, it doesn’t even matter what the gift he got me was (ok I really, really love it), but it was the Christmas Card that he picked out…

Little falling snowflakes and hearts were scattered on it.
And on the front read: "To my beautiful fiancee"
And on the inside: "sometimes everything just falls perfectly into place. Merry Christmas to us."

And then Brandon, trying to still cheer me up, said: "look honey, the card even has our wedding colors."
