Stand Up To Cancer

This is where the end of cancer begins.

Two stars were added by me to the constellation this morning – one for my grandmother and one for my Aunt JoAnn. Add your star today. You can search the constellation to see if your loved one is already there and you can add your donation to his/her star.

Mission Statement:

Here we stand, on the verge of unlocking the answers that will finally conquer the devastation that is cancer.

We now understand the very biology that drives cancer. With knowledge gained from the mapping of the human genome, we can now target the genes and pathways that are involved in turning normal cells into cancerous ones. We are on the brink of possessing a toolbox full of new, advanced technologies just waiting to be adapted to benefit patients. Right before us, so close we can almost touch them, are scientific breakthroughs in the prevention, detection, treatment and even reversal of this disease.

For the first time we can envision the possibility of stopping cancer in its tracks. But just when science is on the verge of giving us the breakthroughs that can end cancer, the will and the funding to do so are disappearing from the national agenda and from our collective consciousness.

Cancer takes one person every minute. One life in a moment. They are our brothers, our sisters, our fathers and mothers, our husbands and wives, our best friends, our children, ourselves. Every day in America 1500 people die and yet the means to save them are literally within our reach. To wait any longer for someone else to save our lives and the lives of those we love is unforgivable.

Inspired to act by our own personal experiences with cancer, we recognize that we can no longer rely on the current system alone to give us the breakthroughs we need.  So, we are calling on the public to help take matters into our own hands, investing in a revolution that will change the way scientist and clinicians work to understand and treat these diseases.  Stand Up To Cancer is more than a rallying cry.  It is a galvanizing force created to urgently move cancer research forward.

This is where the end of cancer begins: when we unite in one unstoppable movement and Stand Up To Cancer.

True Love.

brandon: you know you’re going to go blind from staring at the computer all the time.
amber: oh yeah?
brandon: and I won’t be there  when you’re old to change your diapers with your crappy vision
amber: where will you be?
brandon: i’ll be on the beach in tahiti with my 18yearold girlfriend with 20/20 vision
amber: is that so? and where will I be?
brandon: you’ll be somewhere staring at the wall trying to figure out why it won’t talk back to you.

Hold your horses – two layouts to share!

Category: Uncategorized

Yes here are the two layouts from last week. I have one of those new wireless HP printer/scanner thingys and I am still figuring it out. I had hoped it would scan layouts better than the old one, but alas, this machine too cannot seem to overcome user error. Hence, these are blurry/contrasty like they always are. Enjoy! ;)

Before when I shared, I used to be able to list all the different products on each layout…but my stacked kit club monthly bags have been growing in height over the past year, so I really have no clue where what came from. :)

Happy Tuesday – Happy Summer

Category: Uncategorized

Happy Tuesday to you. Looooved having a 3 day weekend – even though I spent two days of it working weddings and running around all day for the two of them! Gorgeous days and such happy couples.

On Monday, I was looking mighty forward to a cruise around the lake on one of our friends’ boats…but alas, Mother Nature decided to rain, rain, rain on my only day off. Oh well, lost more sunshined filled summer days ahead…

This week is a short work week – I have Friday off for our big Ocoee rafting trip this weekend! Looking forward to it.

I realized I need to get out my camera more! I have been in a photo-taking slump and it will catch up with me when I don’t have anything to document for the last few months. ;)

Loved this quote I came across today…

Risa Mickenberg : "Our lives are a flood of images and we are collectors who keep a strange assortment of images: moments of extreme emotion, pain, beauty, and fear stand out. Events we’re taught to remember: weddings, graduations, births, deaths. Then there are the millions of images that we can’t shake out of our heads, that come to us at strange times – things we can’t remember why we remember: the gold threads in an old stereo speaker, the way the light hit a thousand cars in a parking lot by the water, the face of a stranger in a restaurant, a friend standing in a pool – you can’t remember where, slapping the water with the flat of her hand. Memory is a sieve that holds curious things. A life is a trail of strange, colorful memories."
It is killllling me I haven’t planted as many of the flowers and plants I do this time of year. With the house on the market, we haven’t wanted to invest much into things…but I think I may very well do some pots later this week. I came across this old post from THREE YEARS AGO. Wow, I have been blogging for that long! I love these roses…can’t wait to plant some (eventually…at whatever house we end up at or if we stay here). (Little known fact that you can grown AMAZING roses in Las Vegas. They love the heat!)

A few things…

1. I’m an Auntie!!! :) Lauren and Matt’s little one made his debut on Friday. I told her how crazy it is we were 15 and in high school and getting ready for the Homecoming dance in what seems like yesterday…and here she was ready to go into labor! Time flies. ;)

2. I scrapbooked! 1 whole layout last night – in under 15 minutes. And I really, really enjoyed it. I will share later this evening.

3. Mary Alice and I have THREE weddings this weekend – one for each of us on Saturday and one on Sunday (with 30+ bridal party members). I will be getting a workout running around for sure. I’m secretly hoping one of our neighbors is taking their boats out on Monday so I can kick back and relax. I will need it! ;)

4. Nope, our house still isn’t sold. Pushing 60 days now…impatient…frustrated. Many showings at first but now hardly a peep. We even dropped the price. Watching the morning news is sooo frustrating listening to the costs of gas and the economy and everything. The house we did want, did in fact sell about two weeks ago. Cash offer. So now we have an empty lot we have our eyes on to build the same exact house (with a few modifications)…we keep torturing ourselves by driving out there looking at it often. But everyday there is more reality…and the dream of the new house is slowly slipping away. Nobody is buying anything. Argh.

More again soon. :)
