Pretty Pocketfolds and Invitations, You’ll Always be in my Heart

It is with a content heart I’ve decided to close the chapter on a piece of my business: Amber Housley Design.

If you’ve heard my story at Inspired or other conferences, my business’ beginnings are rooted in custom invitations. The parent company of Amber Housley is Sweet Life Designs, LLC which started operating in 2006 and officially filed as a business in 2008. Even before that, I designed and printed custom shower and party invitations in an eBay shop (this was way before Etsy was even conceived!) that I opened in 2003. When I rebranded in 2011 to “Amber Housley,” the invitations piece of my business was grouped under “Amber Housley Design.”

This decade of designing invitations has been successful both personally and financially.

I have had the honor of being a part of hundreds of celebrations – from weddings, to babies, to showers, to birthdays and a few dozen other life moments in between. I can probably recall just about every design I’ve made. I’m grateful for this journey in the world of stationery design and the wonderful industry friendships I’ve made!

But all that aside, closing this chapter on invitations just feels right at the moment.

I have some fun new products I’d like to design outside of invitations. I’ll still be part of the stationery world, but in a different way that fits my family and life in a better way. I’ve realized that editing is necessary to make room for all the good stuff ahead in the other parts of the AH brand. I have more exciting news this week to share that I feel like I’m going to be almost posting daily on this blog to be able to share it all (something that has been a rarity for some time).

We’ll be wrapping up our 2014 clients in the coming weeks and will not be taking on any new invitation projects. Thank you to all our lovely clients over the many years who made this piece of my heart and business so happy!

P.S. I’m really excited for our family Christmas card this year – for once in about 10+ years, I’ll be leaving the design to someone else. :)

Moms and Mimosas

Hey Nashville brides-to-be, we have a fun event announcement for y’all!

Moms and Mimosas Event | Amber Housley Weddings | Nashville Wedding Planner

Next Saturday, May 24th, our favorite ladies at Wedding 101 are hosting a Moms and Mimosas event at their space in The Gulch. When they approached us with the idea of the event and asked us to design the invitation, we were so in love! The event is such a fantastic idea, and we always jump at the chance to be creative and design something new.

At the Moms and Mimosas event, you will be able to create your own personal perfume and makeup and peruse some gorgeous jewelry all while having a mimosa in your hand and your mama on your arm!

If you are interested, make sure to RSVP to Heather at the email address above by May 17th. We are looking forward to seeing you there!

Nashville Wedding Planning | Hardink Calligraphy

Every time we look at wedding invitation suites, table numbers, escort cards, and other wedding related paper goods, we are always drawn to calligraphy. It can either be modern or classic, but is always beautiful. One of our favorite Nashville calligraphers is Hardink Calligraphy.

Elizabeth of Hardink Calligraphy offers custom invitation design, custom envelope addressing (a big time saver!), and other products like gift tags, logos, and more. While she is local to Nashville, she works with clients all throughout the states. She also has the most darling little Etsy shop!

We collaborated with Hardink Calligraphy on our Sounds of the South styled shoot that was featured in Southern Weddings V6. We had her do create calligraphy details for the paper goods we designed for the shoot, and think that it was a perfect match for the style we were creating!

If you are still trying to figure out plans for your invitation suite or other paper goods for your wedding, we highly recommend Hardink Calligraphy! Make sure to look at other examples of her work in her portfolio.

Nashville Wedding Planning | Hermitage Plantation

One of the most historically beautiful places to get married in Tennessee is the Hermitage Plantation. It is the home of President Andrew Jackson, and is 1000 acres wide. As beautiful as the mansion is, we have found that brides love to get married in the gardens.

These gardens would be the perfect location for a wedding ceremony, don’t you think? The gardens were designed in 1819 by English gardener, William Frost. You can read more about the history of these beautiful gardens on the Hermitage Plantation website.

There are a few other locations at Hermitage Plantation for you to choose to have your ceremony and reception in addition to the gardens. The Cabin by the Spring is a beautifully rustic cabin that offers a more country chic feel to ceremonies and receptions than the other venues in the plantation. It has a maximum capacity of 300, allowing for all of your friends and family to gather together on your special day.

Tulip Grove Mansion provides an entirely different feel and setting for ceremonies and receptions with its Grecian style structure. It is perfect for a couple who is looking for an elegant and regal space to get married. Have your ceremony in the mansion, ask guests to gather outside for cocktail hour, and then invite them back inside for your reception to enjoy dinner and dancing!

The plantation also holds the Hermitage Church, perfect for couples (like Jessica!) who have always dreamed of getting married in a church. Hold your ceremony in the church, and then choose from one of the other locations to host your reception! We think that would be a beautiful combination. If you are interested in any of the above venue options, we highly suggest reading more about the Hermitage Plantation venue spaces to get a sense of everything included with each venue.

Have y’all ever been to the Hermitage Plantation? Don’t you agree that it would be a lovely setting for a wedding?
