The Smart Bride Wedding Planning Workshop

Hey y’all! Today, we are excited to share that our friend from Ashely’s Bride Guide is hosting The Smart Bride Wedding Planning Workshop later this month! Brides-to-be will have the chance to hear from both newlyweds and wedding vendors about their inside tips on wedding planning.

The Smart Bride Wedding Planning Workshop

The workshop allows engaged couples to hear first hand from a variety of newlyweds and wedding pros.  The unique approach and in-depth dialogue is life changing for engaged couples, who return the next year to pay it forward as newlyweds.  The series will cover several topics – from determining your values to smart DIY – and will take place on 3 days: Jan 21, 28 and Feb 8.

For more details about the workshop, please visit Ashley’s Bride Guide! Nashville brides-to-be, we hope to see you there!

Southern Weddings V6 Nashville Launch Party Recap

We just had the best time at the Southern Weddings V6 Satellite Launch Party we hosted at StudioWed Nashville earlier this month! Friends, wedding industry vendors, and loyal Southern Weddings readers all gathered together to read through the pages of V6 while enjoying an Arnold Palmer sweet tea and lemonade cocktail and the most delicious Southern delicacies we could have asked for.

A special thank you to the talented Leslie Walker of Leslie and Dusty Photography for capturing these beautiful pictures of the night!

Y’all, these are hands down the best biscuits I’ve ever tasted in my life. Carrie of Callie’s Biscuits makes a variety of biscuit flavors, and she provided us with two of our favorites – black pepper bacon biscuits and cinnamon biscuits. Two of the most heavenly savory and sweet biscuits we have ever tried. They melt in your mouth!

Chef’s Market also provided us with the perfect Southern treats, from muffaletta to mini fried green tomato bites topped with pimento cheese to red velvet truffles for dessert, they really thought of everything that epitomizes Southern food! We had to make a Firefly Spiked Arnold Palmer cocktail to accompany all of this delicious food, in a mason jar dispenser of course!

One of the best decisions we made was to have Cosmo Creations bring their photo booth to the party! We spiffed up the backdrop with tassel garlands from The Flair Exchange, the colors were so spot on with the colors of V6 that we knew we had to get them!

Everyone had so much fun joking around with their props, from big heart sunglasses to pink lips, as well as the props we made. Yes, we did indeed make silver glittered “y’all”, “SW” and a heart! We also printed out some of the Southern Weddings Southern Sayings and Southern Phrase of the Day sayings, which made great props.

Here are some of our favorite pictures from the night, all captured by Cosmo Creations!

How sweet is this last picture of our wedding industry friend Kelly and her husband with the “Love and marriage go together like biscuits and gravy” Southern phrase of the day card? That is exactly what V6, and this party, were all about celebrating!

We feel so blessed to be surrounded by all of these amazing friends who share the same love of love as we do who come together to support such an incredible magazine.

Thank you once again to all of our amazing sponsors for the night!

Tonight is the night!

I’m so excited for tonight! We plan on welcoming 50+ close friends and family — plus many new friends as well! Be sure to stop by and say hello, sip on a tasty cocktail (or lemonade for a few of my bun-in-the-oven friends) or taste one of the amazing sweets we’ll have on hand. Nothing formal about this party other than just mix and mingling with some of my favorite people! For those of you who can’t make it, I’ll definitely be recapping the evening here on the blog. Thanks again to all the kind words and feedback everyone has given me for the relaunch. You guys are amazing!

See you there!

Memories of Engage: The Grand Del Mar

With all the tweets on Twitter this weekend about the kick off of Engage: Cayman Islands, now is as great of time as any to *finally* share my experience of Engage: The Grand Del Mar from earlier this summer. I can’t help but feel a twinge of jealousy as the attendees are soaking up not only the sun and surf, but engaging in conversations with some of the wedding industry’s top professionals. Not to mention, they are likely meeting new friends galore from all over the country – and world – all chatting about a subject near and dear to our hearts: the business of weddings.

When I signed up for Engage last January, I did it less than one week after I came back from Making Things Happen. I knew that if I was going anywhere or making any further investment for my business, it was going to start there. As an outsider looking in, the sheer caliber of talent and business that are speakers and attendees at Engage was downright scary. It’s an intimate conference – limited to around 200 attendees – and that scary fact also excited me. There is simply no other event that offers this opportunity to mix and mingle with some of the best of the best in the industry. I pulled the trigger within the first hour registration was announced. I had no idea who I was going to room with or what it was going to be like going to something so huge and ALONE, but I was going!

The scary feelings I had are all now but a silly memory. For all those that have considered going, but something is holding you back, know this: the new friends you meet are amazing, the content and workshops are hugely impactful, and I can’t think of a better investment for my business yearly than attending this conference. I also can’t forget to mention the sheer amazingness that goes into the dinners, parties and events at this conference. As a wedding designer, so often you don’t get to really *experience* your client’s event. Going to Engage means also the opportunity to enjoy the food, drink, decor and experiences that we usually miss out on. Hello! That alone is reason enough to go – for a working vacation where you’re the wedding guest each night! ;)

Besides the fun memories, Engage: Del Mar also has another signficance for me. It is here that I had a chat with Lara Casey about the gut feeling I had for my business and the desire for something bigger. So, you could say it was here that the seed for my new Amber Housley brand was planted! On the first day, my rock-star roommate Kathy Romero (who I met on Twitter, yes, really!) launched her new Kathy Romero Weddings & Events brand (by Making Brands Happen) and I watched her cry happy tears of joy when she saw the website go live right there in our very own hotel room. When I saw how authentic she presented herself with her new brand — and folks you must know that Kathy Romero is 110% of positive energy, love and life, and that brand says it 110% — I knew that I wanted something for myself that moved me in the same way.

Through Kathy, I met the awesome Cathy Olson of Love-Inspired, who was the designer behind her new website. Cathy and I were joined at the hip just about every day and evening those four days and I’m so lucky I had the opportunity to get to know her. It made complete sense months later to hand the web design reigns over to Cathy when it came time for the AH brand launch.

Wow, looking back at all the new friends and new directions for my business from attending Engage makes me feel so lucky. It just so happens that Engage 12: Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas was just announced for next June – in my hometown no less – and my calendar is already saved. It’s like they say… “Luck happens when preparation meets opportunity.”

For a real experience, check out the wrap up film here. I make a blink and you’ll miss it at 2:08:

Striped Straws, Pink Ruffle Streamers, Patterned Ribbon – oh my!

Friends, this is the current project that is taking over my office this week. Lots and lots of fun Amber Housley launch party goodness!

Responses have been pouring in and I’m so excited to CELEBRATE my new look with friends both old and new! There will be sips (think sweet tea, lemonade, and fun pink cocktails) and sweets (think a one-of-a-kind cake from my dreams and two awesome gals with a sweet ice cream cart!) galore. This is a casual stop by event, but like any good hostess I want to be sure I have enough treats for all – so please RSVP if you haven’t already. The event is open to all of my favorite people: friends, family, industry friends, past clients, new clients, and yes! even you fabulous person I have yet to work with and would love to connect!

Click on the invite below to RSVP today. I can’t wait to see you there on Thursday!
