So, let's talk about “Blue Monday.”
Apparently it’s the most depressing day of the year, which doesn’t sound super fun, does it? Basically, some scientist decided that the third Monday of January is “Blue Monday,” and it’s all calculated based on a bunch of factors.
Maybe it’s that the money you spent on Christmas is now hitting your budgets and your bank accounts, or maybe you’re starting to lose sight of goals or new habits that you were going to start on January 1st.
And maybe it’s because the weather is gloomy and grey, which totally puts a damper on our moods. This can also be called “seasonal affective disorder.” So since we're not getting as much sunshine and as much light into our day, that kind of affects our overall mood and can lead to depression.
But what does this have to do with our businesses?
It got me thinking about all the different things we can do in these winter months to counteract those feelings of overall “blah.”
So I’m going to give you my tips & tricks for how I stay full of sunshine, even in the chilliest and gloomiest winter months.
Hopefully, these tips help you live a joy-filled life, too, no matter the time of year.
1. Wear Happy Colors
On January 1st, my wardrobe in my closet completely swaps into spring.
We don't live in a super sunny climate, so I'll wear lots of color and fun accessories. It definitely helps my mood. It feeds into the productivity I have in my business and how energized I am to sit down and do the work.
2. Create a (Marketing) Plan
When you have a plan you’re essentially predicting the future.
You're leaning into it, you don't have to show up and not be certain of what the outcomes are… you just have more clarity and more confidence.
Are you feeling kind of lost and stuck?
To me, that means you don't have a realistic plan.
Maybe you need to sit down and plan out your day to feel more successful?
Maybe you need to schedule in some self-care time and time with the kids. And of course, if you need help creating a marketing plan, you can always dive into my Flourish Marketing Plan Program to help you get focused.
3. Move Around
In the past, I had my computer set up at my desk and could sit in my pretty little chair.
But I was spending so much time in that pretty little chair. It's an adorable chair… but I wasn't moving.
I was just so stuck all the time.
Now, I have two different places that I can work from. My regular desk and my standing desk!
Especially in the winter season, it's just downright cold and is sometimes difficult to get outside and be active. But because of my standing desk, now I find myself being more active inside and moving around much more often than I did when I sat at my desk.
4. Find Ways to Energize Yourself
For me, this looks like fueling up with yummy food and nutrients.
I love my Arbonne products for this exact reason. I'm making my protein shakes, drinking my fizz sticks out of my Lily Pullitzer water bottle, and getting all sorts of vitamins from them!
Of course, making time to work out and move your body as well. For me, it’s been a game-changer to get my workouts in in the morning hours.
Otherwise, I’d use the chilly weather as an excuse after work to not get out and get moving!
