Recently, I attended a Cultivate What Matters conference, called Making Things Happen. This is a time where women get clear on their big dreams for themselves, their families, their careers, their businesses… and it’s always an honor to attend!
In my breakout session at the Making Things Happen conference, I shared a story about how guilt was always a big driver for me. This story, along with the discussion that followed, led me to a big whopper of a realization, one that I want to share with you today!
Guilt is like an invisible jacket
Guilt: it’s something every woman business owner feels, especially if she has a partner or family. It’s something I felt every day of my life for the longest time.
As I tried to build my businesses, as I grew my family, as I stepped into different roles in my home and community… I always felt guilty.
You can probably relate, can’t you?
I was telling the women in this group that it’s almost like we all wear this invisible jacket of guilt all the time. We are constantly aware of everyone else’s needs, and spend our days making sure everyone else is taken care of. We put their needs before our own.
Then, in the tiny little spaces where we can actually think about and do things for ourselves… we’re smacked with guilt again!
I realized, a long time ago, that I have this perpetual fear of letting people down.
So much so that I stay with things too long, instead of letting them go.
I didn’t ask for help.
I didn’t turn things down.
I didn’t leave relationships or work environments when I knew deep down it was time for me to move on.
And I crashed and burned because of it.
What rainbow did I find when I finally let go? There is always reward in the risk. You will be OK. Others will be OK.
You don't have to stay stuck just because others need you.
Now, I know that sounds like a ginormous takeaway all on its own, but there’s something else that came out of this.
How guilt keeps us stuck (in life and business)
Once I started talking to the women in this breakout session about guilt and letting go, they started to talk about what they really wanted for themselves.
It was so good!
It made me realize that, when we start to put ourselves first, we start to write our own success story.
You start to dream bigger.
You can see a juicier vision of what the future holds.
You also realize… You are not stuck!
You are adaptable, you are creative, you are evolving!
Our dreams and visions don’t have to be some massive declaration carved into stone. What we need, crave, and dream for ourselves can change.
You have permission to change your arrow in another direction.
Now THAT is a big takeaway, isn’t it?
After the conference ended, I was totally buzzing.
Why? Because I realized this is exactly what we’re talking about inside the Blooming Business Inner Circle in August — helping the Inner Circle Sisters really tap into who they are, what has them stuck, and how to move forward.
The Blooming Business Inner Circle is here to help you get unstuck
We think goals and businesses are so rigid, but we write our own success stories! We get to steer the ship. So...
If you’ve been wearing that invisible guilt jacket…
If you’re feeling stuck but don’t know what’s holding you back...
If you feel the call to go deeper and see what you’re capable of…
Join us in the Blooming Business Inner Circle. August is all about going inward, tuning and upleveling your mindset, and dreaming about what this season looks like in your life and biz.
I’ll be sending out a juicy workbook that helps you dive into where you’re at right now and what’s holding you back (maybe that invisible guilt jacket?).
You’ll also get a ton of inner guidance on what you want this season to be, and how you can move forward!
Honestly, this might be one of my favorite guides yet 😍
Isn’t it time to hang up the guilt jacket for good and choose YOU for once?
