4 Scary Mistakes You’re Making In Your Business
Are you making these 4 scary mistakes in your business? Read on to find out…
Whether you’re new to business or you’re a veteran business owner, mistakes are inevitable. In fact, mistakes are part of the learning process, and they might be necessary for us to really find our own way.
But in my 10+ years working with female business owners in the online space, I’ve seen a few scary mistakes that can make it hard for you to grow your business — and even affect your long-term success. Now THAT is a scary story, one I don’t want you to repeat.
So, let’s talk about the scary mistakes you might be making in your business right now and how to fix them.
The Tale of the Disjointed Brand
When you’re first getting started, your biggest goal is likely just finding someone to pay you for what you offer. After all, paying clients/customers is what makes a business a business! But as you grow, you may neglect some of the more “elegant” parts of running an online business.
Things like a strong website, a good social presence, a visual brand that really resonates with your customers. A visual brand isn’t always the first thing you need to be worried about, but if you’re growing a business, you want a brand that doesn’t keep you up all night!
You’ll want to make sure that your website’s messaging and visuals match your social media, and that your online presence feels similar. That way, you can build trust with your ideal customers — and they know you are who you say you are!

Frightening Facebook Ads
Facebook ads can feel a bit scary, can’t they?
After all, you’re spending money to build reach and possible make more sales. What if you do it wrong? What if you don’t have your audiences set up properly?
This happens a lot but not in the way you might be thinking. You might be thinking that you need to come up with audiences from scratch — to browse through interests and audiences to see if anyone matches your ideal client.
But you’re already sitting on a list of your ideal clients! Your email list! Even if your email list is tiny, it is mighty. You can upload your list to Facebook Ads Manager and use that list to create lookalike audiences — Facebook does it for you, and it only takes a minute.
Do you feel like you’re talking to your customers or clients? Like you’re showing them how you can help and what you do… but they don’t seem to be getting it?
That might be because you’re using words, phrases, and language that is rooted in your expertise and possibly too “high-level” for your audience.
Think about it like this: Do you understand everything a loan officer says about your mortgage or refinance? Or do your eyes glaze over a bit? And what about a mechanic who is trying to tell you what’s wrong with your ride?
It’s not until they show you in clear and simple terms that you understand what’s going on and what needs to be done. The same goes for your audience.
If you’re not sure what words you need to be using, or you’re not sure how your audience talks about their pain points and needs, it’s time to do an ideal customer exercise.

Last but not least, let’s talk about one of the biggest mistakes I see women entrepreneurs making: not setting themselves up for success!
I know as well as you do that, when you’re excited about something, you want to just get started. You want to start helping people and sharing your awesome magic with the world!
That’s amazing, it truly is. But if you want your business to support your customers/clients, you, and your family for the long haul… you need to set yourself up for success.
That starts by making sure you have your business foundations strongly in place, and that you make sure all your bases are covered.
